Component Seven: Coaching and Performance Management

The coaching and performance management tables can help guide conversations with community health worker staff to provide valuable insight and useful feedback.

In addition to hiring the right people, successful programs must also support their community health worker (CHW) workforce through ongoing coaching and performance management. This component includes tools that managers or supervisors can use to assess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of CHWs. These tools can be used to track progress, identify areas for continued support and improvement, and inform how CHWs are approaching their work.
"Coaching and performance management is critical to the impact your program has while also ensuring that your community health worker (CHW) has the tools and the right headspace they need to get the job done. It not only allows for the department or program to track their progress but the CHW to understand the impact they have. Coaching provides continuous support and monitoring for the CHW and a space for them to increase their capacity." —Learning lab participant
