More Than $20 Million in Investment to Nonprofits Driving Proven, Market-Based Solutions to the Nation’s Housing Supply and Affordability Crisis
When a for-sale sign goes up on a piece of undeveloped land in Austin, Texas, everyone looks – especially if it’s near jobs and schools. That includes for-profit developers, of course. And it includes Foundation Communities, a NeighborWorks nonprofit that is looking to build and grow its affordable multifamily apartment homes as the community struggles with ever-increasing rents.
All over the country this month, NeighborWorks network organizations snipped ribbons to open completed projects and broke ground on new ones as NeighborWorks America and the network celebrated both NeighborWorks Week and National Homeownership Month.
When Peacock was preparing to film “Long Bright River,” the TV series based on Liz Moore’s novel of the same name, Bill McKinney, executive director of New Kensington CDC (NKCDC), and a long time resident of Kensington got a call from the author. Soon, he was talking to Moore and the show’s producers, telling them about the real Kensington.
NeighborWorks Laredo kicked off NeighborWorks Week with a groundbreaking ceremony for five new homes. In Boise, teams of volunteers once again painted the town, sprucing up 25 homes with a spotlight on homes owned by veterans. There’s a painting program in the Spenard neighborhood of Anchorage, Alaska, too – the same Neighborhood where NeighborWorks Alaska was created more than 40 years ago.
