Empowering Communities Through Grassroots Journalism

Once a vibrant hub of African American culture and thriving businesses, West Oakland’s San Pablo Corridor now faces disinvestment, rising crime and the challenges of economic growth and rising housing costs. In response, the San Pablo Area Revitalization Collaborative, established in 2014, has united over 25 residents, organizations and institutions to improve the lives of more than 10,500 residents. By prioritizing community leadership and leveraging arts, culture and creativity, SPARC empowers low-to-moderate-income and long-time residents, fostering sustainable health benefits and advancing community priorities.
