NeighborWorks America and Wells Fargo Are Keeping People Housed

Washington, D.C. — Today, NeighborWorks America announced that it has launched the Keeping People Housed initiative to address housing stability in America as millions of renters and homeowners seek help to avoid losing their homes. This new effort to help people stay in their homes provides grants totaling $665,000 and focuses on making a difference in communities of color. The NeighborWorks network helped more than 23,000 people become new homeowners in 2020; 54% of these homeowners were people of color.

Through this collaboration with Wells Fargo, NeighborWorks will implement the Keeping People Housed initiative by working with a select group of network organizations that have specialized programs and services to support renters and homeowners facing distress in communities of color. The participating organizations offer an impressive combination of being a HUD-certified counseling organizations, experience serving diverse communities, and a history of rental counseling and foreclosure/eviction intervention that creates a formidable formula for keeping people in their homes.

"Keeping people housed right now is vital to the advancement and stability of our country, especially with people facing so much uncertainty and pressure," said NeighborWorks America President & CEO Marietta Rodriguez. "This investment is funding one more solution to the challenge of keeping people in their homes and the work we do to address the housing stability issue across the country."

At this crucial time when families and individuals are seeking the safety and stability of a place to call home amid a loss of eviction protections, the collaboration between NeighborWorks and Wells Fargo is making a difference across the country. The education, resources and counseling provided by NeighborWorks network organizations, and funded by Wells Fargo, is helping prevent evictions and keep people in their homes.
