Before finding the Housing Stability Counseling Program (HSCP), Quanton Johnson faced uncertainty in his housing situation. He bounced between staying with family and friends, struggling to find a stable living arrangement. He knew he needed a plan to secure a permanent home but wasn’t sure where to start.

That changed when he connected with PathStone Corporation, a NeighborWorks network organization. Through HSCP, a federally funded program designed by NeighborWorks to pair housing counseling with the people who needed it most, Quanton received not just financial assistance but also critical guidance on budgeting, savings and financial planning.

“This program has taught me a lot about working on my finances, saving and proper speQuanton talks about his journey to finding a home.nding,” Quanton said. “It’s like a mentorship program, helping me get on the right path.”

PathStone’s Senior Director of Housing Counseling Services Sarah Simson highlighted the barriers many individuals face when dealing with eviction. “People have a lot of misconceptions about eviction,” she explained. “Once they get an eviction letter or a notice, they hide their heads and don’t look into any resources or assistance that might be available.”

For Quanton, the counseling and financial education he received through HSCP helped him find direction. “It’s not always about handing out money — it’s about learning the right steps to get where you want to be.”

HSCP, which wrapped up this year, extended beyond immediate relief — it empowered individuals with the knowledge and resources to build lasting financial stability. NeighborWorks America worked diligently to ensure these funds were used effectively, reaching families when they needed it most and providing a clear pathway to security.Sarah, a housing counselor at Pathstone.

Quanton’s story is a reminder that stable housing isn’t just about having a roof over one’s head — it’s about the foundation for a brighter future. NeighborWorks America remains committed to creating opportunities, improving lives and ensuring that communities remain strong and resilient.
