Financial capability and homeownership counseling

NeighborWorks Alaska is a nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life for families and individuals by preserving homes, creating new housing opportunities and strengthening neighborhoods. Based in the city of Anchorage, the organization works across the state of Alaska, with staff traveling to work with partner organizations from the far north to the southeast.

With the Health Outcomes Demonstration Project, NeighborWorks Alaska is evaluating the outcomes for those participating in their Homeownership Center’s Financial Capability program. This program works with first-time homebuyers or those taking a closer look at their finances, helping clients to work towards and achieve their financial goals.  By participating in the demonstration project, NeighborWorks Alaska hopes to connect existing programs to the efforts of health-based groups throughout the state. The organization is looking forward to examining outcomes that they had not initially imagined to be connected to their work, and to create a strong network of partners who will join together to strengthen communities.

Initial Findings
Through surveys and interviews with residents, each organization participating in the Health Outcomes Demonstration Project collected their first round of data about the health outcomes of the program/s they are evaluating.  This snapshot reflects some initial findings which were shared with the cohort members at the November 2017 convening in San Francisco.  Organizations will be collecting their second round of data through the fall of 2018.  Check back in early 2019 for updates!
