Financial asset building

Through its programs and services, Chhaya CDC aims to work with New Yorkers of South Asian origin to advocate for change, be economically stable, and create sustainable housing and thriving communities.

Chhaya’s Asset Building Program embodies the burgeoning need for financial security and mobility that are fundamental to a prosperous future. The financial counselor and Asset Building Coordinator focus on educating low-income, immigrant clients on key financial concepts and provide the tools to effectively set financial goals, manage finances, avoid debt and build credit to bring about economic stability.

Through the Health Outcomes Demonstration Project, Chhaya CDC hopes to understand:
  • Whether participants of the program have increased financial security
  • Whether participants who are more financially secure experience decreased financial stress
  • Whether participants who are more financially secure are more food secure
  • Whether participants who are more financially secure are better able to access healthcare

Initial Findings
Through surveys and interviews with residents, each organization participating in the Health Outcomes Demonstration Project collected their first round of data about the health outcomes of the program/s they are evaluating.  This snapshot reflects some initial findings which were shared with the cohort members at the November 2017 convening in San Francisco.  Organizations will be collecting their second round of data through the fall of 2018.  Check back in early 2019 for updates!
