Helping people, building dreams
For more than a decade, the lack of affordable housing has been one of the biggest challenges in Arkansas, one of the poorest states in the nation. Universal Housing Development Corporation had helped residents become homeowners by building their own homes. Recognizing that existing homeowners needed help, too, they extended the program to home rehabilitation.

Rural Oregon's single-family housing stock has deteriorated as the collapse of local industries and depressed rural wages take their toll. Traditional rehab resources are insufficient to meet demand. However, many homeowners have some of the skills, or at least the enthusiasm, necessary to perform their own repairs.
