Housing counselors across the country working with homeowners to find an alternative to foreclosure for thousands of homeowners cite improving communications with servicers, but note that more needs to be done, according to the latest report on the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling program (NFMC).

Nearly $200,000 in grants awarded to nonprofits offering solar power for low-income communities
Nine grantees will collectively receive $170,000 in grants to equip affordable single- and multi-family homes with solar power, announced NeighborWorks America, a national nonprofit that creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities.

An $8.5 million boost is coming to the Philadelphia economy when more than 2,200 community development professionals from around the country convene in the city for the NeighborWorks Training Institute (NTI) Aug. 17-21.

NeighborWorks America Safe and Sound initiative awards $1.2 million in grants across nine nonprofits working to strengthen rural communities
Nine grantees will collectively receive nearly $1.2 million in grants to improve rural lives by rehabilitating or replacing substandard homes, announced NeighborWorks America, a national nonprofit that creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities. In support of the Safe and Sound initiative, Wells Fargo Housing Foundation donated $1 million and is the lead funder of the effort.

Survey: Minorities feel better about their local economies and job outlook than the national average, while rural Americans generally feel worse
According to a new survey of attitudes from NeighborWorks America, Americans overall are split on their assessment of their local economy and job situation, with minorities reporting more positively than Whites across all income brackets.  On average, the differences can largely be attributed to region, with Americans who live in urban areas reporting more positively about their local economies and job situation, and residents in rural areas more negatively.

Comeback Communities events in New Orleans garner support from JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo Housing Foundation
NeighborWorks America announced that lead grants from JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo Housing Foundation are underwriting the Comeback Communities summit and enabling dozens of nonprofit professionals to attend the one-of-a-kind event here. Comeback Communities is the first step in a national effort designed to identify, explore, celebrate and nurture the essential ingredients of strong, resilient communities.

Ten years after hurricanes ravaged the Gulf Coast, a stronger sense of community emerges
Ten years after the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history devastated homes and displaced tens of thousands of people from New Orleans and other Gulf Coast cities, residents in that part of the country have come back to build a community that is even stronger and more connected to each other than elsewhere in the U.S.

Thousands of neighbors and volunteers help build stronger communities
On June 6-14, NeighborWorks America and its network of local organizations kicks off the 32nd annual NeighborWorks Week, a weeklong celebration in which thousands of volunteers come together to help make their communities healthy, sustainable places. Nearly 200 affordable housing and community development organizations are holding events nationwide.

NeighborWorks America was named one of the nation’s largest builders of affordable homes, according to the Builder 100 list. NeighborWorks America, representing the NeighborWorks network, was ranked No. 3 among builders specializing in affordable for-sale homes.

Community-development conference coming to Kansas City will attract 2,100+ professionals, $1.7 million in economic impact
A $1.7 million boost is coming to the Kansas City economy when more than 2,100 community-development professionals from around the country convene in the city for the NeighborWorks Training Institute (NTI) May 4-8.
