Flooding and natural disasters: Responding to the worst brings out the best
Collectively, disasters caused $306 billion in total damage in 2017, with 16 events that caused more than $1 billion in damage each, based on National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's figures. The bulk of the destruction, at $265 billion, came from hurricanes. NeighborWorks America and its network of member organizations were quick to respond during these emergencies and continue to help long after the floodwaters have receded, working closely in affected areas to provide support.

In an ever-expanding, digitally connected world, scammers increasingly take advantage of unwitting consumers. The deception comes in many forms, including tax-collection cons, vacation scams, phishing attempts to get account information and phony sales calls. Everyone's at risk, but some populations are more vulnerable than others, including the elderly and people in debt.
